Beef (2010)
Summary
Following a vicious rape-murder of Laura Santiago, a worker at "Donna Rosa's" meat packing plant, the SVU detectives learn that the victim was an undercover animal activist attempting to document and expose unsanitary practices in the meat packing industry. Information from the sweet, elderly company owner and face, Rosa "Mama Rosa" Donetti , and plant foreman, John Reilley , leads the detectives to arrest plant worker Jorge Vargas on the grounds of DNA evidence found on Laura's body. However, they soon learn that the DNA was planted by another individual with the help of Vargas' wife, who was led to believe that he had been cheating on her with Laura. Detective Benson goes undercover as a worker to investigate the plant, coming up against Reilley in a violent altercation, who holds Laura's missing film footage. They arrest Riley, confirm his DNA on Laura's body, and upon viewing the film, confirm the unsanitary conditions at the plant. Guilted by Donna Rosa, Riley confesses to the crime of murdering and raping Santiago. However, the detectives realize that Riley is left-handed, but that Laura's throat was slashed by someone who was right-handed. In the end, they discover that Mama Rosa, right-handed, was the true killer, having the most to lose from Laura's footage. Confronted, she confesses to killing Laura when Riley—revealed to be her disowned son—could only go through with the rape but not the murder plan, and they arrest her.
