Fue creada por la cadena Univision, para competir a través de una contraprogramación alternativa, entre Univisión y TeleFutura frente a los otros canales de televisión nacional hertziana terrestre en español (Telemundo, Azteca América, LATV, Estrella TV) u otros canales de TV por cable y satélite en español.
