Robert Pine is an American actor who has starred on television and in film. He is probably best known for his role as Sgt. Joseph Getraer on the hit NBC television series CHiPs from 1977 to 1983.

Pine was born Granville Whitelaw Pine in Scarsdale, New York, the son of Virginia (née Whitelaw) and Granville Martin Pine, a patent attorney. He is married to actress Gwynne Gilford, who made a couple of appearances on CHiPs as the wife of Sgt. Joe Getraer. They are the parents of actors Chris Pine and Katie Pine.

Pine starred on the soap operas Days of our Lives as Walker Coleman in 1987 and on The Bold and the Beautiful as Stephen Logan in 1988, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2001. He also starred in the 2001 science fiction TV series Black Scorpion as Major Worth. Moreover, he has appeared in numerous films: Independence Day , as the President's Chief of Staff; Red Eye , as a grumpy hotel guest; Empire of the Ants ; The Brotherhood of the Bell , and his first film, Gunpoint .

Pine has made guest appearances in many TV shows, including CBS' Gunsmoke, Lost in Space, The Wild Wild West, Barnaby Jones, and Lou Grant. He also appeared on NBC's Knight Rider. On CBS' Magnum, P.I., he appeared as Thomas Magnum's father in a flashback episode. In the late 1980s, Pine guest-starred as Peter Morris, Zack's father, in an episode of Good Morning, Miss Bliss. For Star Trek: Voyager, he guest starred as an Akritirian Ambassador named Liria in the Season 3 episode The Chute. For Star Trek: Enterprise, he guest-starred as Vulcan Captain Tavin in the Season 1 episode "Fusion". Among his other credits are Six Feet Under, Beverly Hills 90210, and Match Game.

In 1987 Pine portrayed President John F. Kennedy in the made-for-TV miniseries Hoover vs. The Kennedys.

In the early 1990s, Pine showed his range by portraying two memorable villains: for California Dreams, he played a wealthy racist who sabotages his daughter's friendship with drummer Tony . For the CBS Schoolbreak Special "Big Boys Don't Cry," he played a pedophile who molests his two nephews (one, a high-school wrestler whose teammates include Mario Lopez of Saved By the Bell fame).

In January 1994, Pine guest-starred as Bart Tupelo on CBS' Harts of the West comedy/western starring Beau Bridges and Lloyd Bridges.

Pine reprised his role as Joe Getraer in the 1998 TNT TV movie CHiPs '99. His character was now the CHP commissioner.

Pine was also the Fisherman in episode "The Storm" in the Nickelodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Recently, Pine has done voiceover work for the video games SOCOM: Confrontation, "Star Wars: The Old Republic" and Bionic Commando. He has also appeared occasionally on The Office as Jim's dad.
