Cynthia Lauren Tewes ,
known simply as Lauren Tewes,
is an American actress best known for playing Cruise Director Julie McCoy on the sitcom The Love Boat beating out over 100 other actresses for the role. Tewes was replaced on the series by Pat Klous in 1984 after a highly public battle with cocaine abuse, although she did reprise her role as a guest in a 1985 episode as well as in a 1997 episode of the sitcom Martin and a 1998 episode of the revival series Love Boat: The Next Wave.

Raised in Whittier, California, Tewes attended Rio Hondo College. She also studied at the University of California at Riverside, California where she won the 1st Annual Chancellor's Award for Excellence in the Theatre. She made her stage debut in Arsenic and Old Lace at the Pacific Conservatory Theatre in California. Other plays include Born Yesterday and Crimes of the Heart which were performed during the early 1980s.

In 2000-2001, she had a recurring role on The Fugitive as a police detective.

She currently lives in the Seattle area of Washington state, where she is still acting in regional theatre and doing voice-over work. Recent roles include Mrs. Pearce in My Fair Lady at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle in 2003, and Karen Noone in Craig Lucas's Prayer for My Enemy at the Intiman Theatre in 2007. Tewes has also performed roles for Imagination Theatre's various radio dramas.

She was married to John Wassel (1977 Nov - 1981), and then to jazz musician Paolo Noonis (1986 - ?). In June 1987 she gave birth prematurely to a daughter, who died a month later. She was later married to actor Bob Nadir (May 1, 1996 - Apr 25, 2002). Nadir died of Lou Gehrig's disease after being ill for several years, and Tewes was his primary caregiver during his illness.

On 13 September 2009, Tewes hosted the "Seaquality" event for Garden State Equality aboard a cruise ship in support of LGBT Marriage Equality.
