Marull was born as Laia Marull Quintana on 4 January 1973 in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. She began her career in an amateurish theatre. Marull is influent in Spanish, Catalan and French, and has performed in all these languages.

Marull is good friends with American actress Sandra Oh. She stated she would like to work with Spanish actor Javier Bardem, who had won five Goya Awards and an Academy Award.
